DURBAN - Police have confirmed that the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has taken over investigations into the murder of ANC Ward 17 Councillor Sibusiso Khwela.
Khwela was shot and killed in Klaarwater, Durban, on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Althlenda Mathe said the PKTT has a proven track record in investigating and successfully resolving politically motivated murders.

“The PKTT will lead and coordinate the investigation, with PKTT detectives already on the ground to ensure that those responsible for this senseless murder are identified, arrested and brought before the courts,” Mathe said.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda had earlier indicated that information available suggests the deceased was in his office with several community members when an unknown suspect allegedly attacked him.
"The unknown man posed as someone who needed assistance from the deceased. The deceased reportedly went out to assist the man. The suspect drew a firearm and shot the deceased several times, and he was declared dead at the scene."
The suspect is said to have fled the scene on foot, and a manhunt has been launched in this regard.
