JOHANNESBURG - SARS Customs officials have seized over 300 kilograms of cocaine worth R167 million at OR Tambo International Airport.
The drugs were found on a flight from São Paulo, Brazil.
Officials found 83 kilograms of cocaine hidden in two suitcases. SARS sniffer dog Lagertha detected four boxes of cargo from the same flight.
The boxes contained another 250 kilograms of cocaine. The drugs have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
SARS says the seizure is part of efforts to stop drug trafficking through South Africa’s borders.
