PRETORIA - President Cyril Ramaphosa says security will be tightened to protect witnesses and individuals named at the Madlanga Commission following an attempted hit in Boksburg.
Wiandre Pretorius, who was implicated in testimony by Marius van der Merwe, survived after three gunmen allegedly opened fire on his vehicle on Thursday morning.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about the safety of those linked to the commission’s hearings.

Pretorius and several others are under investigation in connection with the murder of a man in Brakpan that occurred several years ago.
Ramaphosa strongly condemned attacks and intimidation aimed at witnesses, saying such actions undermine the justice process.
“We are terribly appalled by the attempts that are being made by those who have been doing wrong things against witnesses,” the president said.
“We want to tighten security much more so that those witnesses who are giving evidence online shouldn’t be easily identified.”
