JOHANNESBURG - Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is expected to provide an update on Eskom, including the power utility’s board, governance and the government’s plans for its future.
Ramokgopa is also expected to outline government’s expectations around Eskom’s unbundling into three separate entities, as the utility undergoes one of the biggest structural changes in its history.
A key focus will be Eskom’s future mandate and the role it is expected to play in South Africa’s evolving electricity and energy sector.

The update comes as Eskom board chairperson Mteto Nyati’s tenure is set to end next month.
Government has been driving plans to restructure Eskom into three entities responsible for generation, transmission and distribution. The process is aimed at creating a more sustainable and efficient electricity system.
