Repatriation delays at Beitbridge Border

MUSINA, Limpopo - Scores of Malawian nationals remain stranded at a temporary repatriation processing centre in Musina.

Many have spent up to three nights sleeping on buses or on the ground as they await their journey home.

A Malawian who spoke to eNCA painted a grim picture of the wait amid repatriation delays.

He said since he arrived at Musina, he has not been able to bath and is relying on aid from charity groups for food.

He said when it comes to food, there are charity groups that provide; however, it is not enough.

"We are a lot of people; we don't have money to buy food. So, in order to get food, you have to fight. If you don't you won't get," he said.

In a separate incident, a Malawian bus driver has died, and 11 others have been injured.

The bus was travelling from KwaZulu-Natal to a repatriation camp in Musina when it overturned on the N1.

Authorities say the crash happened about four kilometres south of the Beitbridge Border Post.

It is believed the driver lost control of the vehicle due to fatigue.
