JOHANNESBURG - South African journalist Micah Reddy, who was reported missing in Djibouti, is believed to be in custody.
According to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), Reddy is believed to have been detained after failing to obtain media accreditation.
Local Djiboutian journalist and ICIJ Africa Coordinator Mohamed Willo Ismael is also reportedly being held by authorities.
Reddy’s family, colleagues and media freedom groups raised the alarm after losing contact with him.
Reddy is based in Johannesburg and has previously worked for amaBhungane and the Yemen Times.
Contact with Reddy and Ismael was lost in Djibouti City on Saturday, 19 September. The ICIJ says it does not yet know the circumstances surrounding their detention.
