Senona denies subjecting Sander to polygraph test for coffee machine theft

PRETORIA - Embattled KZN Hawks boss Leseja Senona has rubbished claims he subjected Warrant Officer Karl Sander to a polygraph test for the theft of a coffee machine.

A coffee machine, Sander claimed, belonged to him in the first place.

Giving evidence before the Commission on Friday, Senona said he had no recollection of ordering a polygraph test linked to the theft of Sander's coffee machine.

"That is not correct. It is insane. If you are a victim and I put you on a polygraph test, that is wrong. He misled the commission."

"In that office, there were four thefts; his coffee machine was the last one," Senona said.

He said it was, in fact, Hawks Commander Brigadier Campbell Nyuswa, who initiated and applied for the polygraph test for officers in that office after rampant theft.

"The only thing I did was to sign a call-up instruction because there was no break-in, but things were disappearing. I believe that was done bona fide, not to punish any person."

Sander testified before the Madlanga Commission earlier this month. He claimed he was targeted for exposing an alleged drug syndicate in the province.

On Friday, Senona also denied transferring Sander to supply chain management for nefarious reasons.

Instead, he said he was instructed by Hawks national head Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya to temporarily transfer Sander to another department following a serious complaint against him.

"There were serious allegations of Sander and other members involved in the theft of cocaine at the harbour and selling it to a specific gang. It's the process, when there are allegations that relate to what you are doing, you will be either placed elsewhere or suspended."
