JOHANNESBURG – Police Minister Senzo Mchunu is next in the hot seat before the SAPS Ad Hoc Committee investigating alleged corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system.
Mchunu is expected to give his testimony on Thursday, when proceedings resume.
The committee’s chairperson, Soviet Lekganyane, confirmed the schedule, saying: “We will be with him on the 16th of October and he will conclude his evidence on Friday the 17th. He will then come back next week Tuesday for questions from members.”
Lekganyane added that former Police Minister Bheki Cele will be the next witness to appear before the committee.
Mchunu, who is currently on special leave, has been implicated in allegations of political interference in the South African Police Service.

According to testimony by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, Mchunu allegedly ordered the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team.
Mkhwanazi insisted the Minister acted without a proper briefing and that he had misjudged the task team’s value.
Furthermore he hinted that outside influence may have shaped Mchunu's decision.
