Seven police officers cleared over R228m Medicare24 tender

JOHANNESBURG - Seven suspended police officers who served on the controversial Medicare24 Tshwane District Bid Evaluation Committee (BEC) have been cleared of misconduct charges.

The officers were accused of helping alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala’s company, Medicare24, secure the R228-million tender.

They were found not guilty in a SAPS departmental disciplinary process and have now returned to work.

However, one officer, who served as a contract manager, was docked a month’s salary after it was found that his niece had been employed by Medicare24.

Last week, eNCA reported that SAPS Supply Chain Management head Molefe Fani had also been found not guilty in an internal SAPS disciplinary process.

However, he was subsequently served with another notice of intention to suspend him over unrelated charges.
