That is what the long-delayed inquest in the High Court in Gqeberha seeks answers to, as it revisits the circumstances surrounding his death.
Biko died in September 1977 after being tortured while in police custody.

It is alleged that he was killed by members of the apartheid-era Security Branch.
The inquest, which was scheduled to start last year, was postponed after two individuals of interest, requested additional time.
