Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni said the suspect was arrested on 21 December and appeared in Polokwane for possession of an unlicenced firearm.
"On 22 December, on his appearance, there was a confession which we had sourced and that confession was presented and this confession ultimately had a link in terms of the mass shooting in Saulsville and Atteridgeville hostel," Mthombeni said.
He said the firearm that was confiscated has been linked to the 12 murders and 13 attempted murders.
