JOHANNESBURG - The case against Mathipandile Sotheni has been postponed to 24 April for a formal bail application.
Sotheni made a brief appearance in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court on Monday where he placed his new attorney on record.
The former elite unit officer is accused of the murder of Witness D, Marius Van Der Merwe.
He faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of ammunition.
During recent appearances, Sotheni rejected his appointed lawyer, Eric Bryer.
He alleged he did not know him, leading to delays to await new counsel.
But, documents bearing Sotheni’s name, signature, employer and work address indicate that he consulted Bryer on 18 March.
He also signed an affidavit in support of a bail application, giving Bryer the mandate to represent him.
