UPDATE: Julius Mkhwanazi, Lerutla case postponed

JOHANNESBURG - The fraud and corruption case against suspended deputy Ekurhuleni Metro Police chief, Julius Mkhwanazi and city manager co-accused Kagiso Lerutla has been postponed.

The pair appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court. They stand accused of fraud, corruption and defeating the ends of justice.

They are currently on R30,000 bail each pending court proceedings. 

The matter was postponed to 9 June 2026 for further investigations.

The prosecution alleges that Lerutla paid Mkhwanazi's driver R200,000 to impersonate him in court.

Mkhwanazi allegedly pocketed another R200,000 for the favour. In this 2019 case, Lerutla was supposed to answer to a traffic violation, but opted instead to attend a job interview.
