JOHANNESBURG - Three more sluice gates have been opened at the Vaal Dam.
It brings the total to eight, but no evacuation orders have been made yet.
Authorities are monitoring the situation and say residents should be ready to move once the call is made.
Continuous heavy rainfall means authorities are opening multiple sluice gates for controlled releases in the Vaal River System.
Water outflows from both the Vaal and Bloemhof dams have been significantly increased to manage rising levels and prevent any risk to major water infrastructure.
