Vaal residents prepare to evacuate, again

JOHANNESBURG - Residents along the Vaal River and dam are bracing for emergency evacuations.

The dam has reached 105 percent capacity.

Meanwhile, the Bloemhof Dam is also filling up fast.

Water management authorities say the situation is under control at both facilities.

WATCH: Vaal Floods | Bloemhof residents still recovering from floods

In April, the Water and Sanitation Department was forced to open sluice gates at both the Vaal and  Bloemhof dams to ease pressure after high rainfall.

The Water and Sanitation Department continues to monitor the situation at both dams, as more downpours are expected.
