JOHANNESBURG - An urgent court application has temporarily halted plans to demolish illegal structures at Marble Towers in Johannesburg.
That’s because the City of Johannesburg’s inner-city clean-up operation was underway at the building.
While the demolitions could not go ahead, water and electricity were cut off as the municipality intensified its crackdown on lawlessness in the Joburg CBD.
The city says Marble Towers alone owes nearly R14 million for utilities.

The city had also planned to demolish illegal structures operating in and around Marble Towers, but that part of the operation has now been temporarily stalled.
The property owner has brought an urgent court application against the municipality to stop the demolitions.
The matter is expected to be heard on Wednesday.
