JOHANNESBURG - The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) leadership has been shaken.
Jacob Zuma's son Duduzane Zuma has been appointed as the new first deputy president of the MK Party with immediate effect.
This was announced by party spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu during a media briefing on Tuesday.
The decision comes in what the party has called a move to strengthen itself and consolidate its structures.
Zuma takes over from John Hlophe, who has now been relieved from deputy duties.

Mahlangu said Hlophe still maintains his position as the leader of the party in the National Assembly.
Hlophe was not the only one who was subjected to the leadership changes.
Zuma also relieved several other officials of their duties.
Deputy Secretary General Nomsa Dlamini was removed with immediate effect and replaced with Lindiwe Mtshali.
National Chairperson Nkosinathi Nhleko has now been replaced by Reverend Mxolisi Phakathi
Tony Yengeni remains as the second Deputy President of the party.
Willis Mchunu will serve as part of the presidential collective of the MK Party while also maintaining his role as Provincial Leader in KZN
