Inquiry hears how Feroz Khan allegedly interfered in drug bust scene

PRETORIA - The Madlanga Commission has heard how Deputy Crime Intelligence head Feroz Khan allegedly interfered in a July 2021 drug bust in Aeroton, south of Johannesburg.

An undercover police officer, identified only as Witness I, told the commission on Wednesday that Khan was not supposed to have been at the scene.

However, according to the witness, the senior officer arrived during the operation and took control.

"General Khan came to the scene and took over and gave instructions. As a crime intelligence general he was not supposed to be on the scene, these things were supposed to be done by the head of the investigative unit," Witness I told the commission.

Khan’s name has repeatedly surfaced during testimony before the Madlanga Commission, where he is accused of interfering in police investigations.

He is also facing charges of contravening the Precious Metals Act and defeating the ends of justice in a separate matter.

Meanwhile, Police Portfolio Committee chairperson Ian Cameron has called for Khan’s suspension.

Cameron said accountability must remain the standard for every police officer, regardless of rank or seniority.
