KATLEHONG - John Sibeko, the man accused of carrying out a deadly mass shooting in Katlehong, made a brief appearance at the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Sibeko has been in custody since handing himself over to the police on Tuesday night.
He allegedly opened fire on a group of African National Congress (ANC) Youth League members as they returned from a fellow member's memorial service.
Two people died at the scene, while two others later succumbed to their injuries in hospital, bringing the total death toll to four.

The accused faces a string of charges, including four counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm in a public space and failing to secure a weapon in a safe.
A conviction on just one of the murder charges carries a minimum sentence of 15 years behind bars.
Sibeko is a former Katlehong councillor and reportedly a member of Afrika Mayibuye Movement Party.
The party said they would probe links to him and if it is found that he is a member, his membership will be terminated.
Sibeko is expected back in court on 22 October for a possible bail application.
