JOHANNESBURG - Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, the man at the centre of corruption allegations before the Madlanga Commission, is set to go on trial in July.
But before the trial begins, Matlala’s legal team wants the state to hand over an IPID statement allegedly made by Tebogo Thobejane, in which she said she was assaulted and forced to make a false statement against Matlala.
They also want Sanral CCTV footage and police vehicle tracking records.

Matlala is facing 11 counts of attempted murder.
He’s accused of ordering hits on Thobejane, DJ Vettys, and businessman Joe Sibanyoni between 2022 and 2024.
Meanwhile, a state request for an order barring the media from publishing any information that hasn't been ventilated in open court was refused.
Matlala and his co-accused will be back in court on 15 June.
