ANC NEC meets over Maduro arrest

JOHANNESBURG - ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member, Nomvula Mokonyane, has condemned the US’ attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of its President, Nicolas Maduro.

Mokonyane, says the party chose not to release a statement immediately because the matter was going to be discussed at an NEC meeting.

She says the party has reflected on the matter and views it as a demonstration of throwing away multilateralism and institutions that are safeguarding a rules-based approach when dealing with conflict.’

Maduro is appearing in a New York court on charges of narco-terrorism and drug trafficking.

He was abducted in a US special forces raid in Caracas on Saturday.
