Babita Deokaran remembered as a dedicated civil servant

JOHANNESBURG - It's been four years since whistleblower Babita Deokaran was assassinated.

She had exposed multimillion-rand tender corruption at Tembisa Hospital and within the Gauteng Health Department.

Six people are serving prison sentences for her murder, after their conviction in 2023. They are serving prison sentences ranging from 6 to 22 years.

But her family and civil society organisations want the mastermind to be found and made to account.

The Special Investigating Unit says it has made significant progress in its probe of Tembisa Hospital, where Deokaran uncovered massive tender corruption.

It's also following leads to uncover whoever may have been the mastermind behind the brazen assassination.
