Convicted fraudster Hildegard Steenkamp to be sentenced

JOHANNESBURG - Convicted fraudster Hildegard Steenkamp will know her fate on Friday.

She returns to the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court for sentencing.

Steenkamp was found guilty of over 330 counts of theft from healthcare company Medtronic.

It took place over 12 years from December 2004 to December 2016.

Steenkamp diverted tax refunds meant for her employer to her or her late husband’s bank accounts.

She told court the fraud began when her then-husband needed money for his business.

She says her attempts to stop the transactions were met with resistance by her abusive husband.
