Earlier this year, the university's Vice-Chancellor, Sakhela Buhlungu's, bodyguard Mboneli Vesele was killed.

A university fleet manager was also murdered.

The President has appointed a task team to look into the safety of staff at the University following numerous threats to their lives.

Cele said, "the information we have with Fort Hare now, five people arrested… Two of them are from KZN…The information we have is that a person died in the car accident the problem we have is that is one of the key witnesses."

"We’re don’t have any information saying that it could have been foul play but the team is working on verifying that."
