Criminal charges laid over university access

PRETORIA - As registrations open at universities across the country, warnings are mounting over alleged syndicates selling access to higher education.

The networks are accused of exploiting desperate students during the registration rush.

The EFF Youth Command has now laid fraud and corruption charges against those allegedly involved.

The EFF says the scams have turned higher education into a commodity, with syndicates targeting vulnerable families with promises of admission.

The allegations come as universities nationwide warn first-year students about fraudsters operating on social media and messaging platforms during the registration rush.

With criminal charges now opened, the EFF Youth Command is warning students and parents to avoid anyone demanding payment for registration or placement, saying those cashing in on desperation must face the full might of the law.
