JOHANNESBURG - A frivolous, opportunistic attempt to score political points.
That's how political parties in the Gauteng legislature view the Democratic Alliance's motion of no confidence against Premier Panyaza Lesufi.
The motion fell flat, after 54 legislature members voted no, while only 24 voted yes. Several opposition parties also refused to support the move.
The DA, led by Solly Msimanga, tabled the motion, citing the Premier's handling of the Gauteng crime-prevention wardens, known as AmaPanyaza.
"I can tell you right now there are people that have died in the line of duty because of adequate training"
After the motion was tabled the EFF staged a picket in the chambers, labelling the DA hypocrites.
Despite the setback, the DA vows to continue holding Lesufi accountable for his government's performance.
