DA policing spokesperson comments on SAPS disunity

JOHANNESBURG - After a change in guard, there’s already disunity among the police’s top brass.

The Acting Minister of Police, Professor Firoz Cachalia, has expressed disapproval of an action taken by the National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola.

On Thursday, Masemola said that 121 dockets had been returned to the political killings task team.

The top police officer in KwaZulu-Natal, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, had claimed that the now suspended police minister and others had interfered to see that the dockets were removed and the unit was shut down.

Cachalia now suggests Masemola jumped the gun because the Commission of Inquiry investigating Mkhwanazi’s explosive claims has not yet begun its work.

The DA policing spokesperson, Lisa Schickerling , discussed this with eNCA.
