Dam levels rise as above normal rainfall persists

PRETORIA - Heavy rains across much of the country are filling dams.

The latest report shows overall dam levels have risen from 80.6 percent to 81.2 percent following above-normal rainfall.

Provinces with the most significant increases are Gauteng, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

"We must attend to the issue that, if there is a leak, fix it immediately under the point that water is going to be running in the street for 48 hours or 72 hours," said Deputy Water and Sanitation Minister, David Mahlobo.
