JOHANNESBURG - UmKhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has announced former finance minister Des Van Rooyen, as the new Chief Whip.
He replaces Colleen Makhubele, who was appointed to the role in May.
Her removal follows internal demands for her suspension, due to claims that she failed the required vetting to serve in Parliament’s Intelligence Committee and tensions between her and John Hlophe.
MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela praised Van Rooyen, as an experienced member of the liberation movement with a wealth of academic, political, and governance expertise.
