DJ Warras gunned down

Johannesburg is in shock after the killing of popular DJ and TV presenter DJ Warras. 

The 40-year-old was shot in Johannesburg on Tuesday in a case that has suspected links to hijacked buildings.

He had secured five protection orders before being gunned down.

As tributes pour in, grief is giving way to anger over the failure to protect those who challenge criminal networks.

Meanwhile family and friends gathered in Johannesburg to pay tribute at a memorial service for the popular DJ.

Beyond the spotlight and the airwaves, DJ Warras was described as a family man at heart.

Interim report finds failures in Verulam temple collapse

Serious construction failures are at the centre of the deadly Verulam temple collapse.

This was revealed by Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson.

While presenting the preliminary outcomes of the collapse investigation, Macpherson revealed that the site has now been declared as a crime scene. 

Investigations have revealed that the building collapsed while concrete was being poured.

It has also come to light that there were no approved building plans, no construction permits issued, and the building may have been occupied prior to the issuance of an occupational certificate.

MK Party MPLs in a scuffle with police

The no-confidence vote at the Provincial Legislature in Pietermaritzburg against KZN Premier Thami Ntuli failed on Monday. 

The MK Party tabled the motion. The proceedings took a turn when the speaker decided to allow an open vote.

Then MK Party MPLs clashed with police and punches were thrown in the legislature.  

Madonsela in bitter estate battle

Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela says she has been receiving death threats since the death of Edward Foxton.

Madonsela and Foxton’s children have been embroiled in a legal battle for his R10-million estate. 

Madonsela says she expects the courts to judge the matter of her late partner's estate, or his family to settle it.

Three institutions issued notice to cancel registration

Higher Education Minister Buti Manamela has issued a Notice of Intent to cancel the registration of Damelin, City Varsity, and ICESA City Campus.

The Department cites ongoing non-compliance, including failure to submit annual reports and prove financial sustainability.

It has also confirmed that ICESA City Campus has ceased operating.

The notice will be published in the Government Gazette, and affected students will be provided with support.

Vehicle ploughs into cyclist, killing one

Camps Bay police have opened a culpable homicide case after a cyclist was killed in a collision on Tuesday.

The driver of a BMW struck down two cyclists on Victoria Road.

Idris Sheriff was declared dead on the scene.
