EAST LONDON - East London will soon be known as KuGompo City, following a decision to rename the city.
The Arts and Culture Department greenlit the new name.

The name KuGompo dates back to the 1800s.
It was named after the sound of waves crashing against the Gompo Rock, now Cove's Rock.
It is the place where amaXhosa Kings would gather for important meetings and ceremonies.
However, not everyone is convinced that a name change was needed.
