Eastern Cape flood relocations face resistance in Butterworth

MNQUMA LOCAL MUNICIPALITY - One month after deadly floods devastated parts of the Eastern Cape and killed more than 100 people, the province is now preparing to relocate thousands of displaced families. 

In Butterworth, tensions are flaring.

Some residents in the Amathole District are rejecting the relocation plan, fearing an increase in crime. 

The Mnquma Local Municipality is heading to court to ensure the move goes ahead; warning that delays could put lives at risk if people remain in flood-prone areas.
