Eastern Cape flood victims face relocation standoff

BUTTERWORTH - It’s been a month since floods devastated parts of the Eastern Cape.

More than 100 people died and thousands were displaced.

Now, the relocation of flood survivors to temporary homes is finally underway.

But in some areas, resistance from local communities is threatening the process.

Tensions are rising In Butterworth, where residents say they won’t accept new neighbours, citing fears of rising crime. 

The municipality is now turning to the courts to force the move.
