Education Inequality | Pit toilets still a reality for many
An ongoing health hazard where many children are exposed to inhumane conditions. This is what in 2023, many pupils from the Eastern Cape are subjected to.

These are the views of civil society groups after yet another child died an undignified death in a pit latrine.
Langalam Viki (4) was buried in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.
Her death is a stark reminder of the backlog facing Basic Education to eradicate pit toilets at schools.
But, 10 years after the Minimum Norms and Standards were published, the department says it's still facing challenges.
