Frene Ginwala dies aged 90
JOHANNESBURG - Dr. Frene Ginwala has died aged 90.
Ginwala was the founding Speaker of South Africa's democratic Parliament.
She died at her home on Thursday evening after suffering a stroke two weeks ago.
Ginwala served during the struggle against Apartheid and was also a lawyer, academic, and journalist.
In 2005, she was honoured with the Order of Luthuli in Silver for her contribution to the struggle for democracy.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has conveyed his condolences to her family as well as the legislative, executive and judicial members of the state.
