DURBAN - A group of refugees who had been camping outside the Diakonia Council of Churches has now been transported by bus to the Department of Home Affairs.
This is where they will be processed, their permits checked, and their status in the country verified.
The group has been seeking shelter and protection after claiming they were attacked and forced to flee their homes amid growing anti-immigration tensions.

eThekwini mayor Cyril Xaba said individuals found to be undocumented would face arrest, court proceedings and deportation.
“We've already spoken now to the head of court to ensure that there is a designated court as well as a magistrate to be ready to process them,” Xaba said.
Xaba said officials are expected to work around the clock to ensure that the group is processed.
