Illegal Mining | SAPS: 'Challenge lies in arrests'

JOHANNESBURG - The Portfolio Committees on Mineral Resources and Energy, Police, and Home Affairs visited Mpumalanga for an oversight visit to assess illegal mining in the area.

On Wednesday, six alleged illegal mining kingpins appeared in court.

They face several charges, including fraud, money laundering and contravening the Precious Metals Act.

The provincial police commissioner in Mpumalanga says one of the biggest challenges is catching illegal miners in the act.
