Impala mine accident | Unions demand accountability

RUSTENBURG - Mineworkers' unions are calling for accountability from Impala Platinum Mine in Rustenburg after Monday afternoon’s accident that claimed 11 lives.

AMCU president Joseph Mathunjwa has gone as far as calling for an amendment to the health and safety law to allow mine bosses to be charged with culpable homicide.

An elevator transporting mine workers up and down the shaft unexpectedly dropped 200 metres, killing 11 miners.
