Israel recalls ambassador to South Africa

JOHANNESBURG - Israel has recalled its ambassador to South Africa Eli Belotserkovsky.

They say the reason is to 'consult' with him due to recent comments by South Africa's International Relations.

Earlier this month, SA recalled its ambassador and diplomatic mission to Israel and described the war against Hamas in Gaza as “genocide.”

Last week, SA filed a referral against Israel to the International Criminal Court over its military campaign in Gaza and asked the ICC to investigate it for war crimes.

Meanwhile, Parliament is holding a hybrid session on Tuesday to vote on a draft resolution by EFF leader Julius Malema relating to the closure of the Israeli Embassy in South Africa and the suspension of all diplomatic relations with Israel.

Last week, a draft resolution was debated in a mini-plenary.
