JOHANNESBURG - Pain, anger and fear continue to grip the family of 10-year-old Akeem Williams, who was shot and killed over the weekend in Klipspruit West near Eldorado Park.
He was reportedly playing in the street when gunfire erupted, leaving another person dead and three others wounded.
Residents say deadly shootings and gang violence continue to plague the area, despite the deployment of the army.
The boy's aunt, Fadeela Williams, said: "We're very angry as well because it happened literally on our doorstep, a few houses away from where we stay.
"We are angry that nothing is being done about the gang violence, the gun violence in our communities and it's upsetting to say the least."
She said the tragedy has left a deep scar on the family, who are now struggling to explain his death to younger siblings and cousins.
"We don't know how to console them as children. How do we explain this to his siblings, to his cousins that he's no longer here?"
In the same shooting, an adult male was also killed.
As investigations continue, police say they are working to trace and arrest the suspects, who are believed to have fled the scene.
