Malawian man's music business dreams in SA crushed by deportation

MUSINA - Thousands of Malawian migrants who came to South Africa in search of better economic opportunities are gathered at the Musina Showgrounds.

A Malawian man’s dream of earning a living in South Africa and building a media and music production business has come to an abrupt end.

Arnold John arrived in the country in May, despite being aware of growing anti-migrant sentiment.

Less than two months later, he’s abandoned that dream and is preparing to return home.

As he prepares to return to Malawi, John said he knows the economic hardship awaiting him, just like thousands of others now departing from South Africa.

Despite the disappointment of seeing his South African dream come to an unceremonious end, the father of three said he has not abandoned his ambition.

He hopes to one day establish the business he had always envisioned, back home in Malawi.
