CAPE TOWN -KwaZulu-Natal police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi believes Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala was used to discredit him.
He addressed claims about his meeting with the alleged crime figure.
Matlala's testimony before the Parliamentary Ad Hoc committee revealed that the two met in Durban last year.
Mkhwanazi returned to the hot seat on Wednesday to respond to questions raised from the testimonies of other witnesses.
"I did not disclose the meeting and I'm glad that he is the one that introduced the meeting because the people he spoke about are subject to the investigation...
"And I did not want to disclose it because I had made a commitment that I would not disclose any meeting that he is giving me as an informer," he testified.
Mkhwanazi was the first witness when the Committee began its work last year.

His famous July 2025 press conference sparked the establishment of the Committee and the Madlanga Commission.
Since then, explosive information about the rot in the criminal justice system has come to light.
