JOHANNESBURG - It's business as usual for Grade 12 pupils from Riverlea High School as they return to their gutted school.
They are expected to begin preparations for their June examinations.
The deputy chairperson of the student governing body, Kegan Everson says at least four mobile classes will be installed to accommodate the matriculants.
He says the school hall will also be used as a provision.
On Sunday, at around 6pm, a fire broke out at the school, destroying 11 classrooms - days before the start of the second term.
Four of them were actively being used by Grade 8 learners, while the remainder were unoccupied.
Additionally, the entire boys’ toilet block was destroyed in the fire, affecting all male pupils at the school.
According to the Gauteng Department of Education, at least 230 pupils have been affected by the aftermath of the fire.
The circumstances surrounding the fire is still unknown, but investigations continue.
The GDE is appealing for information that can assist in the investigation.
Gauteng education spokesperson Steve Mabona says they have begun preparations and have already found two mobile units from neighbouring schools.
The other classes will move to the hall while they wait for the other mobiles and will continue with curriculum delivery.
