CAPE TOWN - Legal experts have underscored the equal weight of two processes probing claims of political meddling and corruption in police affairs.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has established a commission of inquiry to investigate allegations of corruption and undue influence levelled against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and senior SAPS officials.
An ad hoc parliamentary committee probing the same claims is also set to begin its work soon.

Parliament’s probe will focus on the oversight role of the minister, as part of the executive, as well as departments, including the South African Police Service.
Clearer details on when exactly the work of these two platforms will kick in are expected this week.
Analysts see these measures as a critical step in clearing up the rot in the police service.
