CAPE TOWN - Parliament is stepping up efforts to strengthen South Africa's constitutional watchdogs.
National Assembly Speaker, Thoko Didiza, will convene a high-level meeting next Thursday.
It will include Chapter Nine institutions, Cabinet ministers and parliamentary committee chairpersons to review progress on implementing the Kader Asmal Report.

Discussions will focus on shifting the budgets of these institutions from the executive to Parliament.
It's an attempt at improving accountability and governance, expanding access to rural communities, and protecting their independence.
The closed-door meeting will be followed by a media briefing outlining key decisions.
