Nearly 200 arrests made for cable theft: JHB mayor

Joburg mayor Mpho Phalatse was delivering Joburg's Golden Report which provides feedback for residents on interventions implemented to better the city. 

JOHANNESBURG - Nearly 200 suspects have been arrested for cable theft this year according to Johannesburg Mayor, Mpho Phalatse.

She was delivering Joburg's Golden Report which provides feedback for residents on interventions implemented to better the city. 

She said, "we're also working closely with SAPS in the space of reducing cable theft when this administration sounded the alarm bolster our efforts they were quick to respond to our call we have seen a gradual decrease in the number of cable theft to critical infrastructure  the program is bearing positive results as the 193 suspects were arrested in 20121/2022 compared to 75 the previous year."

"This translates to 157% increase. Furthermore 41 were arrested in 2022 compared to only 24 July 2021 71% increase... that is justice."
