JOHANNESBURG - Former minister, Malusi Gigaba, has presented himself at the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption’s offices in Pretoria - not to be arrested, but apparently to answer to allegations about receiving an “undeserved benefit”.
He initially released this public statement saying he was summoned to court over ongoing corruption investigations into procurement at Transnet.
That investigation stems from irregular multi-billion-rand contracts awarded between 2010 to 2014 while Gigaba was Public Enterprises Minister and a period heavily linked to the Gupta family’s influence over state-owned entities.
Among the controversial deals in focus is the R54-billion locomotive procurement tender, which investigators allege was manipulated to benefit Gupta-connected companies.
Gigaba has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing - calling previous allegations politically motivated and insisting he had no role in influencing tenders at the parastatal.
