Mogotsi survives 11-bullet 'hit', MK Party's revolving leadership door, Gigaba summoned by IDAC

JOHANNESBURG - Brown Mogotsi survives an alleged hit in Vosloorus, MK Party boss Jacob Zuma suspends second-in-command Hlophe, and IDAC summons former minister Malusi Gigaba over corruption allegations.  

BROWN MOGOTSI SURVIVES ALLEGED ATTEMPT ON HIS LIFE 

Speculation is mounting over whether the alleged attempt on controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi’s life in Vosloorus was real or staged.

Vosloorus witnesses allege Brown Mogotsi shot his own car.

A witness says there were no other cars around Mogoti's red Chevrolet when the shooting happened.

The controversial North West businessman alleges he was shot at by gunmen in  Ekurhuleni on Monday night.

It was reported that approximately 11 bullets riddled the car, yet Mogotsi escaped the alleged attack without injury, and no blood was found inside his car.

The South African Police Service has located Brown Mogotsi. They are also seizing his gadgets.

Police have asked him to fill in the gaps on the alleged assassination attempt.

NET CLOSING IN ON 'CAT' MATLALA' ASSOCIATE AND BUSINESSES

The net is closing in on Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala's businesses and associates.

The alleged Big 5 cartel member who is central to allegations being probed at the Madlanga Commission and SAPS ad hoc committee remains behind bars.

Matlala is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly ordering a hit on his ex-girlfriend.

However, eNCA sources have confirmed that police pounced on one of his associates on Sunday and took her to a police station for a statement.

SHADRACK SIBIYA BODYGUARD, A LONG-STANDING CRIMINAL 

The Madlanga Commission has begun communicating with James Stuart Scharnick to possibly appear at the inquiry.

Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo linked Scharnick, who has a long-standing criminal record, to suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya.

Khumalo revealed at the Commission that a vehicle driven by Sibiya was registered under Scharnick.

He said that Scharnick has been linked to 34 cases in total; he was found guilty on 18, 11 were withdrawn, and acquitted of five.

Scharnick has denied acting as Sibiya’s bodyguard, insisting he is merely an acquaintance and gave Sibiya a bullet-proof vehicle to use. 

CACHALIA SAYS MKHWANAZI'S JULY BRIEFING WITH REGALIA 'WORRIED' HIM

Acting Police Minister, Firoz Cachalia has described KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's press appearance in full military uniform as unacceptable.

He says such behaviour is inappropriate and deeply concerning.

He made the remarks during his first appearance before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee probing allegations of corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system.

Cachalia said Mkhwanazi's appearance before the public 'worried him' even more so questioned the manner in which such information was made public.

SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR REIGER PARK MASS SHOOTING 

A second Reiger Park shooting suspect has been arrested. The 18-year-old was arrested at a house party after a tip off.

The arrest is in connection with a drive-by mass shooting incident on Saturday in what police believe is an attack linked to gang violence.

The shooting left six people killed and three others.

Meanwhile another suspect in the matter, a 23-year-old appeared before the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

MKP SHOWS DEPUTY PRESIDENT JOHN HLOPHE THE DOOR 

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has suspended its deputy president and parliamentary leader, Dr John Hlophe.

He is suspended from both his leadership roles with immediate effect, pending an investigation into his conduct.

The decision follows Hlophe's removal of parliamentary chief whip Colleen Makhubele in favour of Des Van Rooyen.

The MK Party faces ongoing internal disputes over leadership and direction.

 

GIGABA APPEARS AT THE IDAC OFFICES 

ANC MP and former Cabinet Minister, Malusi Gigaba, has appeared at the offices of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption.

This latest development comes after the former Minister of Public Enterprises announced through a social media post that he had been summoned to appear in court on Friday.

This is in relation to alleged irregularities in Transnet's procurement processes.

Gigaba was Public Enterprises Minister between 2010 and 2014.

IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame said they are still engaging with Gigaba, further confirming that he has not appeared before court nor has he been arrested.

MCHUNU HANDS OVER GADGETS TO SAPS 

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has handed over his electronic devices to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The move follows claims by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, that Mchunu who is on special leave has been engaging in corrupt activities.

Mkhwanazi alleged that the minister has relations with alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi and suspected underworld kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
