JOHANNESBURG - Suspended deputy EMPD chief Julius Mkhwanazi and his five co-accused have been denied bail in the Emmanuel Mbense murder case.
The six appeared in the Brakpan magistrate’s court on Tuesday. Their case has been postponed to 24 November for further investigations.
The group is facing murder, robbery and defeating the ends of justice charges in connection with the killing of the businessman.
Mbense was killed allegedly at his Brakpan home, before his body was dumped at a dam near Nigel, in April 2022.
During the bail proceedings, Mkhwanazi’s defence argued that he was not present when Mbense was allegedly assaulted and killed.
Mbense had been accused by police of stealing copper before his death.
The court is now considering the circumstances surrounding the case as the six accused fight to be released on bail.
