Nuclear power key to electrifying Africa, says Ramokgopa

PRETORIA - Nuclear energy will play a crucial role in bringing electricity to the more than 600 million people on the continent without it.

So says Energy and Electricity Minister, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, who has briefed the media on the government’s Nuclear Energy Programme.

He announced that Eskom has received a 20-year licence extension for Koeberg unit 2, a few months after unit 1 was granted its own licence.

This means the units will be in operation until 2044.
